GP3 – Administrator

 

The Administrator program is a maintenance and troubleshooting tool for system and network administrators, technology coordinators, and other IT personnel.

Unlike the other Grady Profile applications, which are distributed widely, Administrator is meant to be used exclusively by adminstrators. As such, it is only installed on the computers that these individuals use to manage Grady Profile, and is not otherwise available to users.

Network Panel
Grady Profile can operate in either Local or Network Mode. In local mode, it looks for files on the local hard-drive; in network mode it looks for files in the network shared folder. If the network shared folder is unavailable or missing, it automatically falls back to local mode.

Grady Profile uses a shortcut (alias), located on the local hard disk, to find the network shared folder.

This panel allows you to control whether the Administrator operates in local or network mode — it is sometimes convenient to be able to switch back and forth. The panel also lets you save a copy of the shortcut (alias) file for distribution to other computers.

File Locks Panel
Grady Profile uses a technique based on “lock-files” to handle serialization of access to shared network resources. Files are normally locked and unlocked automatically. If a file fails to unlock (due to some sort of extraordinary event), the file will need to be manually unlocked.

This panel summarizes the current lock status of files and provides access to the Locks Manager, which is an interactive real-time display of lock status. The Locks Manager includes the manual unlock function.

Maintenance Panel
This panel provides administrators with the ability to verify Grady Profile database files, correct problems, and optimize files for performance and disk space used.

Locations Panel
If you need to travel from building to building to administer multiple Grady Profile sites and carry a laptop with you, it can be a minor hassle to set up access to the network shared folder at each site (since they will be in different locations).

This panel provides a little help in that situation, by allowing you to save multiple shortcuts (aliases) to each network shared folder and to switch which one is “active” by selecting your location from a list.
