Our FAQs are organized by category:
The Student eJournal comes in four packages:
- a single-user package for use on one computer,
- a lab-pack for use on up to 6 computers in a single room,
- a small site-license package for use on up to 50 computers in a single site,
- and an unlimited site-license package for use on an unlimited number of computers at one site.
Upgrades are categorized as major or minor.
- Major upgrades are available to licensed users of student eJournal for a fee, not to exceed 50% of the cost of the original license.
- Minor upgrades are available for a shipping and handling fee of $10.
- In either case, the license holder of record will be notified by mail (physical or email) when upgrades are available.
There are three levels of security in student eJournal:
- Owner Security. A password is required to access an eJournal as an owner. The password is encrypted, and the program provides protection against break-in attempts via random password guessing.
- Teacher Security. Teachers have much the same security access as students, but teachers may only access student eJournals using the eJournal Class Manager program. This program is only installed on computers that teachers use -- it should not be installed on computers that students use. Also note that teachers may annotate a journal entry, but may not change it.
- Peer and Guest Security. Peers and Guests may freely open a student's eJournal, but they will only be able to view journal entries which have been flagged (by the student or teacher) as accessible for peer review. Peers and guests may annotate the pages they are allowed to see, but they cannot otherwise change these pages in any way.
Students and Teachers (and optionally Peers) can use a Notes area to annotate individual journal entries. Each journal entry may have as many notes as you like. These notes represent a dialog between teacher and student about the piece of writing.
Notes may consist of either text or recorded voice. Each note is independently listed by title, author and date. Notes may only be modified by the author of the note [although teachers have some additional privileges].
Lots! Each journal entry may have a graphic attachment, a sound attachment, and a QuickTime movie attachment -- all of which can enrich the content of the journal entry. The Notes described above also represent additional content.
If you've licensed the student eJournal appropriately, then students certainly may take their journals home! Each student's eJournal is stored independently and is quite compact, so moving files around is quite easy.
Schools which implement advanced networking features such as VPN (Virtual Private Networks) can also provide students and teachers with access to journals from home.
Yes, indeed. We designed student eJournal with networking in mind. We offer student eJournal in single-user licenses, lab-packs (6 computers in a single room), small-building site licenses (up to 50 computers in a single school) and large-building site licenses (more than 50 computers in a single school). This means that it is easy and inexpensive to purchase the amount of student eJournal that you need for your network.
Of course! Spell-check is built in and we include a 100,000 word dictionary. In addition, we include all of the standard search and replace functions.
You have several printing options.
- The Owner can print a particular journal entry, a set of entries, or the entire journal.
- A Peer or Guest can only print those journal pages they are allowed to see.
- A Teacher can open a particular student journal and print all or part of it. In addition, teachers have several class-wide printing functions, such as printing the latest entry from every student eJournal -- all in one simple operation.
