What is the upgrade policy?

Grady Profile updates and support are available via a maintenance agreement. The first year’s agreement is included in the original license purchase. After the first year, the maintenance agreement may be renewed on a yearly basis. Please refer to the Price List for details.

Holders of a current, valid maintenance agreement will obtain all upgrades of Grady Profile automatically and free of charge.

Normally, updates will be delivered via CD-ROM. However, updates may be delivered via web download when expeditious and appropriate.

You may reactivate an expired license agreement for 120% of the price of a current maintenance renewal. Upon reactivating an expired license agreement, you will receive software that will enable you to update to the current release of Grady Profile.

Yes. Grady Profile uses a common, cross-platform file format for student profiles, class files and other shareable files. As a result, the program provides equivalent functionality and appearance on Macintosh and Windows. It is designed to work on a mixed-platform network.

How many profiles will fit in It?

There is no built-in limit to the number of students per class, the number of classes, or the total number of students. The only practical limitation is the amount of storage needed to store the student profiles.

The on-disk format of Grady Profile was designed for space efficiency. In almost all cases, the amount of disk space required for a student profile is dominated by the disk space required to store the student's artifacts. There is no per-student disk quota.

In most environments, the student profiles are stored on the school's file server. The disk space requirements on client computers is modest (10s of MB).

Will it work on a network?

Yes. In fact, we assume that Grady Profile will be used in a networked environment. Student profiles should be stored on the school's file server, so that teachers, students and administrators can all access student portfolios (under appropriate security, of course) from anywhere in the building.

The actual programs can be run from either the file server or from locally-installed copies on individual client computers. (We recommend local installation for optimal performance.)

Can students and parents log in from home?

That depends on your school and its security policies. To access student profiles from home, we recommend using ‘Virtual Private Network’ (VPN) technology. In this approach, computers which are located physically outside of the school's network can be granted (limited) network access after establishing that they have been authorized to do so. Once this access has been granted, the computers can access student profiles just as if the users were using a computer that was inside the network.

There are two provisos associated with using a VPN:

  1. Not every school or district will be comfortable setting up or granting this kind of access, although it should be perfectly safe if set up properly.
  2. Access to student profiles will take place at a speed limited by the communications speed. A family with dial-up access will have a different experience accessing student profiles than a family with high-speed access.

Can I have multiple classes?

Yes. High school teachers, middle school teachers, and subject specialists can group students easily by subject, by hour, by teacher — whatever grouping is useful to you.

Can profiles be saved over time?

Yes. And we recommend that you do so. We designed Grady Profile with multi-year portfolios in mind because we understand the value of being able to track a student's growth over time.

Is training available?
