eJournal Class Manager

The Teacher's Tool for Managing eJournals

The Class Manager software is included with every license of student eJournal.

The Class Manager features a roster-like view (the Class Browser) which gives you easy access to your class of journal writers.

Accessing Student Writing

Select a student from the roster list in the Class Browser and click Open Journal. The student's journal opens, allowing you to read what the student wrote.

Although students may lock peers and guests out of their eJournals, teachers always can read all entries from the password-protected browser.

Adding Notes

Since eJournal respects the student's ownership of their own writing, teachers cannot change the contents of a journal entry. However, teachers (and peers or other guests if they have access to the journal entry) may leave typed or spoken notes for the journal owner.

Class Setup

The program leads you through four easy steps to set up your classes and create eJournals for your students.

  1. Define a class name.
  2. Specify an (optional) Greetings. The greeting is a message that appears as the content of the first page of new journals. You can use the greeting to communicate your expectations to your students.
  3. Determine which eJournal features are right for each class.

Managing Assignments

Assignments are writing prompts. You can use them in different ways.

An assignment consists of a brief writing prompt and a more detailed explanation (which we call instructions). Normally, only the prompt is visible to students in the eJournal window. However, when the student places the mouse cursor over the prompt, the instructions are displayed.

You can keep different sets of assignments for different classes.

Students may create new entries in their eJournals (selecting an assignment on their own) or, as shown here, teachers can send specific assignments (as new, blank journal entries) to individuals or to an entire class.
