Packaging Options
Packaging as an eMail attachment
If you decide to send your Toot! electronic résumé as an eMail
attachment, Toot! will help by creating a ZIP archive package for you containing
the portfolio and the associated artifacts. Keep in mind:
- The size of the archive will probably be dominated by the size of the
artifacts. If the archive is too big, you may have trouble sending it
and your recipient may have trouble receiving it. (Some Internet carriers
place size limits on accounts.) As a rule of thumb, do not email attachments
over 2MB in size.
- The email you are attaching the archive to will serve as your cover letter.
Prepare it with care.
- Your recipient will need to download Tooter,
the Toot! Viewer to open your résumé. Be sure to mention
this in your cover letter. Tooter is a free download.
- Given the current state of the Internet, your recipient may not be
comfortable opening your eMail attachment. Prepare for this possibility
with a plan for follow-up.

Packaging for CD/DVD media
If you have a CD-ROM, CD-R/W, or DVD burner on your computer, you can create
a disc containing your electronic résumé, a copy of your cover
letter, etc. Toot! will not actually control your burner hardware; instead,
it will help you prepare for burning by collecting copies of all necessary
files into a single folder that can be used as your burn source. Use the
software that came with your burner to burn the disc.
Keep in mind:
- You should use your name as the volume name of the disc.
- Put a copy of your cover letter into the burn folder, just in case your
letter and your disc become separated.
- Your recipient will need to download Tooter,
the Toot! Viewer to open your résumé. If you know your
recipient has a Windows computer, you can include the Windows Tooter
installer on your disc. However, if your recipient is (or could be) a
Macintosh user, you will either need to create a dual-platform CD or
include the Macintosh Tooter installer as an archived file. (See
the documentation for your burner software for instructions to create
a dual-platform CD-ROM.)

Packaging for a web-site
Another option is to convert your Toot! electronic résumé into
a set of HTML files and posting them on your web-site. Toot! also supports
this option. Keep in mind:
- The people who look at your résumé on the web will render
each page using their browser and their set of fonts. You have little
control over this process. We have tried to adhere closely to recognized
Internet standards and have tested on a variety of browsers (on both Macintosh
and Windows) to provide the widest possible compatibility.
